Cattle Egret

Bubulcus ibis
In May 1993 the first Severnside Little Egret dropped out of the sky onto Northwick Warth near “the flash”. We had been expecting a Cattle Egret to appear for a number of years following recent records nearby in Gwent, Gloucestershire and North Somerset. Just over 19 years since the first Little Egret, on 9th September 2012 a Cattle Egret was found on Northwick Warth near the flash and spent most of the day feeding around Cattle and Horses. By May 2026 there have been at least 35 records involving at least 68 birds with the biggest flock of 12 in May 2026.
