
2025 SIGHTINGS
A phenomenal year with 5 new species reported for the first time resulting in an equal record 190 species for the Year.
Highlights included Booted Eagle, Caspian Tern, Pallid Harrier, Penduline Tits and Bean Geese as first records, the first Sooty Shearwater for 51 years and the 3rd record of Alpine Swift.
Other notable species included White-fronted Geese, Pink-footed Goose and Egyptian Geese, Garganey, Goosander, Red-breasted Mergansers, Pectoral Sandpiper, Wood Sandpipers, Woodcock, Curlew Sandpipers, Spotted Redshanks, Grey Phalaropes, Pomarine Skua, Black Terns, Little Terns, Sabine’s Gull, Little Gulls, Razorbill and Guillemots, multiple Shags, White Stork, Cranes, Glossy Ibis, Spoonbills, Cattle Egrets, Great White Egrets, Manx Shearwaters, Storm Petrels, Leach’s Petrels, 9 Ospreys, a White-tailed Eagle, multiple Marsh Harriers and Red Kites, Short-eared, Tawny, Barn and Little Owl, Black Redstarts, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, Firecrests, Bearded Tit, Marsh Tit, Wryneck, Woodlark, Hawfinches and Crossbills.
Unusual records included a Wheatear in February, Reed Warbler and Common Redstart in November plus a wintering Whinchat.
Once again Avocets, Little Ringed Plovers and Lapwings attempted to breed with the latter two being successful.
Disappointments included the lack of any Divers, Great Crested Grebe, Bewick’s Swan, Whooper Swan, Purple Sandpiper, Pied Flycatcher, Ring Ouzel, Eider, Goldeneye, Scaup, Goshawk or Snow Bunting.
